Travel photographer, Dottie Bond, takes us on a 5-day tour of Maine. What do you think of when you think of Maine? I have always thought of lobster rolls and sailboats, coastal fog and thick-bearded lumbermen and the spruce-firs that line the Appalachian Trail as it snakes towards its northern terminus at Katahdin. My visits to the state over the years have confirmed this impression: Maine is a Vacationland par excellence.
So when the opportunity to spend a few days exploring coastal Maine arose, I jumped at it. After attending a wedding in Camden with my friend, Kate, and my dog, Romulus, we headed northeast along the coast to Acadia National Park where we began our 5-day odyssey. We slept at the Seawall Campground on the southwest corner of Mount Desert Island—known as the “quiet side” of Acadia—right down the road from the famous Bass Harbor Lighthouse. There were wild blueberries and vistas of rocky outcrops galore. We stood atop Cadillac Mountain and lunched at Jordan Pond House alongside families beset with squealing kids who cried out for popovers and blueberry crisps. Each day we watched the sun rise and set from a new vantage point along the Atlantic—Bass Harbor, Schooner Head, Thunder Hole. When we were not welcoming the day or biding it farewell, we lazed around Bar Harbor enjoying slow, idle hours sipping coffee while basking under the midday sun. This was summer done right.  ..

Last-Minute DIY Sexy Halloween Costumes

Halloween is just a few days away. Maybe you haven’t found the sexy sailor costume you wanted or haven’t had enough time to sit down and make your own costume. Or, maybe you just have no clue what to dress up as. Well, no need to panic. We’ve compiled a list of sexy, easy-to-make costumes that you can throw together last minute. To put together these costumes, you can shop for clothes online or use items you already have in your closet.

Spice up the classic cat costume with this sexy tiger costume. All you need for this costume is a black dress or a black top and skirt, cat ears, and orange and black body paint. Simply paint tiger strips on your arms, shoulders and legs. Add a black nose and whiskers. Complete the look with knee-high Pleaser boots or high heels.

Minnie Mouse

Dress up as our favorite classic Disney character – Minnie Mouse. Add sex appeal to Minnie’s classic look with a red polka dot mini skirt and a black crop top from your closet. Then add mouse ears with a red polka dot bow, a black belt, Pinup Couture heels, and of course, red lipstick.

For this costume, you’ll need some gems and sea shells, a top with a sweetheart neckline (or bandeau bathing suit top), a green skirt, and nude Funtasma pumps. Paste the shells and rhinestones on your clothing, give yourself wavy, beach hair, and finish the look with blue eye makeup and sheer lipgloss.

This scarecrow costume is perfect if you want a unique costume that fits the Halloween theme. It’s also an inexpensive and easy way to make your own scarecrow costume if you and your friends are doing a “The Wizard of Oz” theme. All you’ll need is a farmer’s hat, a flannel shirt and jeans (or overalls), and makeup. The main part of this costume is the makeup. Create your scarecrow face with orange circles on your cheeks, a triangle on your nose, and black lines in the corners of your mouth.

What will you dress up as this Halloween?

Fall Favorites 2014: The Denim Shirt

We love fall here at Shopping Blitz. Sure we love the cool weather hikes, warm drinks and playing in fallen leaves, but what we really live for is replenishing our fall wardrobe! Blame it on years of back-to-school shopping, but once September / October hits we are pulling out our wallets and drooling over the season’s latest offerings. This year we are especially into simple, neutral pieces that can be reused for fall and winter. Remember simple does not have mean to boring. To us a classic piece is worth its weight in gold.

Case in point: the versatility of a good denim shirt is almost immeasurable. You can wear it with it your colored skinny pants and an awesome pair of booties for a drool-worthy casual look. Tuck them into a pair of dress trousers and add some knock-em-dead heels for a classy look all your own. The options are endless! Tell us your favorite look. We love learning new style tricks!

Get Outside & Play: Early Spring Hiking

You may call us crazy but we can smell spring in the air. It’s in the small moments of sunshine and warmer breezes. We believe in thinking positive and calling forth what we want. And we want to get outside and play. So in that vein we present our Get Outside & Play series. To kick it off we will start with our personal favorite spring activity; hiking. Hiking, which is fundamentally walking in nature, is an activity that can be enjoyed all year round. All that’s needed is a sense of adventure and the right equipment.

Late winter and early spring hiking calls for sturdy footwear and grand discoveries. The earth is waking up again and their is magic in the air. Navigating the mud and lingering snow is a job for proven hiking boots. Our current favorite is the  Terrex Fast R Mid GTX Boots  by adidas. Built with the kind of stability and support needed to ascend a trail at high-speeds. The waterproof and lightweight boot provides said stability and support in spades with Formation technology and Traxion outsoles. Easy to pack and durable, the Terrex collection is the boot you want on your feet coming down the trail.

Despite its draw, hiking at this time of year comes with its pitfalls. Snow, rain, mud, blow downs and worn out roads all pose obstructions. However, the good news is that with each coming eek conditions will begin to improve. In the meantime, their is no reason to miss out on the fun. For clothes layering is the still the name of the game. Weather conditions may start out warm but temperatures drop quickly as the sun goes down. Base layers and wind-proof gear is important protection against the elements.
