The Price We Pay: One Woman’s Journey to Find the Perfect Rain Boots

As returns season is upon us it gets me thinking about all the shoes in my closest I’d love to replace. Some were gifts, some choices from an outdated past, damaged pairs and ones that never made sense in the first place. I look at the rain boots under my desk, long-faded from its cute white, pink and purple plaid glory days. They were cheap and have lived-up to the price. Sometimes, unfortunately cheaper doesn’t mean better. Sometimes we need to make an investment in quality. We need to ask ourselves, do I want these for a day, a season, or a lifetime? And then figure out monetarily what we are willing to pay for our choice.

Crocs WelliesMy used and abused golashes have had me perking up at each new brand’s offerings. Crocs Bridle Wellie Rain Boots have been catching my eye the most lately. Designed like a classic riding boot, these waterproof beauties have a cushioned footbed and Crocs proven comfort. Plaid overlay gives the boot an air of respectability and class. That’s a lot to be said for a rain boot and at $66 its an incredible bargain!

Dirty Laundry Rain BootsIf we are going off cuteness factor alone than my mind wanders to Dirty Laundry Rodwell Waterproof Boots. A mid-calf boot whose bold colors and rounded design will add a splash of color to the gloomiest of days. Checking out at $45 they are worth more than a second look. I am partial to the Fushia/Orange, as well as the Green/Navy. Pairs like these make me wish for storm clouds!

And because we should never let the weather slow down our chic, let me present Henry Ferrera Neon Bootsthe Henry Ferrera Neon Boot. Sleek, with a faux crocodile finish, these are the kind of boots that make the statement for you. If I bought these I would call them by City boots. A pair I could use to dress up even an old pair of jeans. Something about heading into Manhattan makes me want to put my best foot forward. Comfort is also key for walking those long city blocks. At $40 you can afford a tough rain jacket to go with it!

Ahnu Laguna BootsMy thinking outside box choice is the Ahnu Laguna Boot. Waterproof patent leathers with easy on/off medical zipper. Contains a U-shaped heel stabilizer for optimum comfort and balance. Its seam-sealed construction keeps water out and heat in! At $160 its a commitment but with this kind of construction they are boots that will grow with you.

My mind is still unmade as I love them all but I hope my ramblings have made the point that fashion need not find its true worth on a price tag. The best finds are often found in the unlikeliest of places! Now go splash in some puddles for me!

Comfort & Style for the Holidays

The Halloween costumes are put away and Thanksgiving dinner has been served. It’s official – The Holidays are here! No matter what event you will be observing this year, I’m pretty sure that a bit of shopping – and the ever so lovely waiting in line – will be involved. If you’re23503229274913751_lejfPUQL_c like me, all that standing and walking around can become quite painful. You start off with the stamina of a five-year old but after a few hours all you’re looking for is the closest bench.

Comfort is the name of the game around this time, especially when it comes to your choice of footwear.  I always assumed that any added height to my shoes would elevate the pain along with my stature.  That is not always the case.  In a mere two months at ShoppingBlitz, I’ve learned that a well-made shoe can not only up the ante on comfort, but achieve it without compromising on style or quality.

For staSBPKL_801-8004rters, I present to you the latest addition to my ‘happy feet’  family, the ever-so-chic Pikolinos Bruja Buckle Boots , shown here in chocolate. With a low 4-cm heel, they add just a touch of height, but oh are they comfy!  The secret is in the gel and foam padded midsole for which Pikolinos is known for. Get yourself a pair of these and your feet will thank you. Then you can thank me later.

Or how about these Sofft Colorado boots?  Belt buckles over SBSFS_1416240smooth, buttery leather are indisputably in for the season. Though they pack a higher 3-inch heel, don’t despair.  These boots are kind to your soles, with extra padding added to the arch, foot and heel. You will come to appreciate the perforated foot bed, allowing airflow, so you won’t be bringing home stinky, tired feet along with your presents.

SBPKL_865-9270For those not-so-chilly fall days, you can trade up the boots for some oxfords by Pikolinos or even these adorable flats by Henry Ferrera.  Padded with gel and foam on the midsole for added comfort, the oxfords are just fun to dress up and you won’t even feel the slight 4cm heel. The Henry Ferrera flats will get yoSBHF_WILD-BLUGLDu through a day of shuffling bags and kids in and out of the car.  The contrast between the wintry blue and the eternally in season cheetah print will bring a lot of attention to your feet. I can’t say enough how much I love these shoes!

Let’s not forget to take care of ourselves in the midst of taking care of others. Be kind to your feet this season, and every other season, and they will take you happily wherever you need to go. And remember, if you can’t make it to the stores, or if you truly are too sore, grab a cup of hot cocoa, curl up on the couch and shop for your loved ones while barefoot and in your pajamas – online!

The Point of It: A Fascination with Winter Toes

There is much to be said about the foot fetish, as well as its more specialized cousin, the love of toes. From ancient China and the once popular practice of foot binding, the human fascination with women’s toes is timeless.

In summer, there are many ways to show off your wonderfully pedicured feet and their luscious nail polish; from flip-flops to gladiators and classic sandals to peep-toes. Salons all over the country offer French pedicures, while nail artists are able to create beautiful pieces of art on even the smallest of surfaces.

But what to do when the days become to cold to show off our footsies? Do we completely hide our feet from the elements? The simple answer is no. The longer one is to keep them warm and dry but continue to hint to the fact that you have more to show off than can be seen.

Wear your peep-toes in the autumn and winter by pairing them with a thick pair of opaque tights, provided it is not raining, you can pull it off without no problem. I myself adore the Betsey Johnson Sitan Pumps. Not only are they reasonably priced but they have the ability to bring some joy and fun into the dreary everyday of the cold weather months. Teal or yellow, both sport a lace-up detail on the heel and the back.

That said, in the fashion Metropolis of New York we have seen the streets overflowing with another kind of toe highlight, only packed a bit differently. Dear ladies, it’s called a toe cap and it is all the rage in fashionista circles at the moment. Flats, pumps, boots and oxfords are adorned with contrasting colors or metal caps, and as always Shoppingblitz has stock in what’s hot.

The simple and classic Henry Ferrera 200-Paloma Pump highlights the toe in either orange, blue or pink. Sporting a 3.5 inch heel, they are a wonderful option for those of us who have to juggle work and grocery shopping while running from the subway to the office!

For the bad girls there are the Steve Madden Bolddd Pumps, which are a fetish in of itself, but perfect for a wild night on the town. Pair it with skinny leather pants for maximum rebel appeal.

If you are a lover of all things romantic, steer clear of the above mentioned, and opt for the Funtasma Victorian 45 Boots. With only a 2-inch heel, these beauties offer a sexy twist on classic attire, the lace-up design is made easy by a hidden zipper. Gold and black will go well with any pair of jeans, and will give you an excuse to wear 100 golden bracelets into the winter too.

The classic oxford is revived in the Bass Jolene Oxford. Quality made, leather all over, these will let your feet breathe and feel comfortable all day long. Pair with a pant suit or a pencil skirt for a Mad Men work experience.

Last but not least, Funtasma Mouse 16 Cute Flats, which are, above all, cute. Perfect for the days when you are feeling carefree and a bit silly. Leather, polka dots, and a bow… a bit much if not dressed down with simple black pants. When done right the whole ensemble can become a wonderful and humorous outfit.

Fall Darkness is Upon Us

Each new season brings with it exciting new color pallets and cuts, accessories and must haves. Here is our take on the designer catwalks, which we hope will advise you on the styles to come for the upcoming Fall season.

One of the most important trends seen on the runways is the overall use of dark colors. The designers have fallen in love with the goth look, and given us the darkest blacks they could muster on both clothes and shoes. For those who think black is a Karl Lagerfeld signature and not to be taken lightly; dark purples, reds and blues are a few more colorful options.

What covers our bodies is foremost, an over-sized coat, jacket or a sweater. As big as you feel comfortable with, in black preferably, but a nice camel tone might be just the thing if you are looking to cheer up the overall look. One other silhouette to keep in mind is the accentuated waist, sometimes exaggerated to the extreme by additional padding of the hip area. If you are naturally curvaceous that might not be necessary, just show off your assets!

The rest of the ensemble should be fitting, with pants cut of above ankle and skirts mini. You should also try to incorporate at least one fall piece made of luscious brocade or satin with embellishment to your wardrobe, and the brave among us may splurge on a nice pantsuit in the luscious fabric. Leather is taking center stage as well, be it real or fake, and get a jacket – or pants, why not? If you are not as bold, you can always add a leather accent to your wardrobe, like a great high boot or an over-sized bag.

Something is to be said about matching ups and downs this fall, as the runways were full of matching pants and shirts, skirts and jackets. We are not talking about color blocking, but pattern mania, that seems to have taken over even the tamest of designers. Tip: Just make sure it matches.

One last thought that was obvious to the fashion-show goers is the fur. Again, fake or real, it’s up to you, but don’t think donning your mother’s fur coat is going to do the trick. Fur is used as an accent, be it a shawl or a cuff on the shirt, some have made their trimmings fur, the others whole sleeves. The same goes for booties and bags, they have been enveloped in fur and are being worn with pride.

Aside from the fur and the leather accents, shoes on the runways tend to be too high-heeled for a working girl to wear, so your better bet would be to get a more reasonable heel – or a flat – with some studs. Booties are also one of the staples of fall, and were seen with wedge heels, which are more comfortable to wear anyhow. If you are a lover of high boots, be our guest, it is only going to add to your fall glamor.
