For most Americans this winter will go down in history. Before one storm can be cleared away another one lies in its wake, enter apropos nicknames like Snowmageddon and Snowpocalypse. No matter what you call it, it sucks and supplies normally fully in stock are dwindling. One such staple is the all-important winter boot.

According to the New York Times as reported by Jezebel.com, “We are completely short, completely out of stock at this point,” said Brian Rosener, the manager of the Eastern Mountain Sports store at Broadway and 76th Street who has worked at the store on and off for 15 years. “This is the most thorough sell-through that I’ve seen.” Rosener also added “It’s been a tough winter to stay ahead of the curve. We’ve gotten very good at apologizing and finding other stores to get the products in.” The thought of all those East Coasters slogging through the rest of the winter without the proper footwear makes us sad. Luckily here at Shopping Blitz we are well stocked to keep feet warm and dry.
At Shopping Blitz we have the awesome privilege of carrying almost 300 amazing brands. Each brand in of itself is unique and worth getting to know better. Here is a snapshot of some of the cool stuff our Vendors are doing to shake up and change the face of fashion as we know it.
First up is my latest sneaker obsession, Superga
The Italian-based company, who inked a deal with Steve Madden as their exclusive North American distributors, is now under the direction of Co-Creative directors, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. The Olsen twins, who have long ago shed their image as the babes from Full House, have developed into savvy business woman and fashion mavens. With this in mind, it is no surprise that the brand has recently joined forces with Leandra Medine, street-style maven, blogger and recent author of a collection of essays entitled ‘The Man Repeller.’ Medine has now created a capsule collection, of the same name of her celebrated essays for Superga’s Fall 2013 collection. The style is young, hip and adaptable. Talk about a revamp on a timeless style!
Agness Deyn for Dr. Martens
“I seem to be making characters for each new season. This seasons character is probably the quiet girl in the bunch whose walls are covered in posters of The Yardbirds, The Smiths and The Who” — Agyness Deyn
Model and modern ‘Punk IT girl,’ Deyne has created a new line for Dr. Martens, a brand that has a long rep for epitomizing the fashion essence that is alternative. Ms. Deyne, embodies the company’s ethos of ‘standing for something.’ Her creative self-expressive style and innovative ideas were the catalysts behind her line, ‘The Third Collection.’ The collection is Deyne’s interpretation of the ‘Mod’ look, a style that has come along way from its inception in the swinging 60’s. The line encompasses clothing, footwear and accessories, with prints influenced by tailored fabrics like houndstooth and herringbone. While Deyne could make a garbage bag look chic, this collection gives the rest of us a fighting chance.
Nicola Formichetti named Artistic Director for Diesel
“The fashion industry has to change. It’s so one-dimensional. We have to start somewhere, and Diesel is such a huge power.”— Nicola Formichetti
Former stylist for Lady Gaga, the Italian/Japanese fashion director and editor takes on Diesel and the project of infusing new life into an iconic brand. If you have any interest in fashion or social media, you will have by now seen the #dieselreboot campaign; featuring artistic images of edgy, fresh faced talent. Formichetti eliminated the middleman and went straight for the talent/creatives via a Tumblr page he created for such purposes. The #dieselreboot campaign is all about resetting the clocks, not so much a redo but a fresh shock to the established system. Something one would expect from a fashion innovator who has built his career on renegade styling and campaigns that land with a blast, never a whimper.
Summer is a hop, skip and a jump away – are you all set for the bikini season or still scrambling to beach-proof your body in less than thirty days like the rest of us? If the latter refers to you, don’t despair! We have all you need to get moving and grooving!
Get Closer to Your Beach Body the Shopping Blitz Way!
Check With Your MD Well, we don’t exactly carry doctors on our website, but we highly recommend that you see one anyways – you wouldn’t believe how many people end up in emergency rooms with avoidable injuries. Get the OK from your physician and make sure there aren’t any pre-existing conditions, such as asthma or high-blood pressure, that need to be addressed before you begin any exercise program.
Get In Gear Workout gear, that is. Brands like Under Armour – with their Signature Moisture Transport System – keeps you comfortable and dry by wicking away sweat as you perspire during workouts. Make sure to get an ample amount of tees and shorts as well as comfortable sneakers– you want to avoid the “I don’t have anything to wear” excuse at all costs! If you plan on exercising in the daytime, don’t forget the sunscreenand some shades to protect your eyes as well. For those working out at night, we carry reflective apparel and footwear to keep you safe and visible after hours.
Monitor Your Heart Rate I wasn’t too fond of doing this myself at first, but it is important. According to medical professionals, closely tracking your heart rate during exercise can help you derive more from your workouts. You heart rate tells you how fast you should be moving, when it’s time to slow down, and how in (or out) of shape you truly are. Luckily, brands like Soleusmake water resistant HRM watches that can do the leg work for you.
Get Lost No, please come back! I mean get lost in whatever it is you are doing to fine tune your bod. Find an exercise routine that you love (or at least don’t hate) and make it fun! Blast your favorite tunes while doing workout videos at home or load up the iPod for gym sessions. Grab a buddy if you don’t want to do it alone, or join an online support group with like-minded individuals to track your progress and get encouragement. Stay at your own pace, keep a smile on your face and make this your best summer yet!
Since turning 30 this gal has begun to let go of her tomboy past and embrace the temptress that is fashion. Fueling the flame are all the amazing styles popular this Fall. I find that I want it all in my closet, from the cute dresses over tights and tall gorgeous riding boots to funky flats with colored jeggings. Slowly I am beginning to weed through my shoes and replace the clunkers with classic pieces that I can manipulate into any style I am feeling at the moment.
My most recent purchase from the SB warehouse is the Juletta boot from Naturalizer. These boots are part of the reason that at my age I am developing a shoe obsession. My mother would be so proud! These babies are just stunning. I have somehow wheedled them into most of the decent parts of my wardrobe. They make so-so dresses smile and give old skirts a new lease on flirt. The other ladies in the office and my girls out of it have been experiencing the dreaded shoe envy. Which is no place for a fashionista on the rise to be.
What really set my new boots a part for me was how surprisingly comfortable they were. Normally I am not happy unless I am in flats or flip-flops but these boots have become an extension of my feet. After some research I discovered that for over 80 years Naturalizer has been creating shoes known for their comfort. All Naturalizer footwear features their exclusive N5 comfort system—five essential features that help in providing all day comfort: extra cushioning, breathable linings, balance, flexible soles and lightweight material.
I have no problem running around in them every day at the office and then effortlessly carrying them over into my social time. Which is feat unto itself. Shoes that are day and night friendly are clutch. I never have to bring a change of shoes when wearing the Julettas, unless I am heading to the gym. Which is not enough to even talk about! But since these boots make my legs look so good I try to not let it get me down. Happy Fashion Hunting!
It seems like everyday here at Shopping Blitz headquarters we are adding new brands to our repertoire. And while everything we sell is high-quality and the best of the best, every once in a while one comes across our desks that really stands out. So the Editors of The Blitz have created the Manufacturer Spotlight.
Our first spotlight is on OOFOS, truly a sandal like no other. Picture a shoe that is contoured to fit every angle of your foot. Made with OOFOAM, a combination of compound and their patented footbed design. A sandal that bends when your foot does and supports it on the way down as well! OOFOS supports the bone structure of your foot while cushioning the impact of walking at the same time. Test results show that Oofoam technology is 37% more impact absorbing than any existing EVA, the most used material in footwear. What sets OOFOS a part from the pack is its restorative component. A lot of manufacturer’s claim their sandals provide support and comfort but OOFOS actually restores your foot’s energy and provides instant recovery
Poorly designed footwear can not only make your feet hurt but cause stress and impact on other joints; hips, knees and back to name a few. For this reason and many others we at Shopping Blitz are personal fans of the OOFOS brand. We spend a lot of time on our feet just like you do, and we want a sandal that can carry us from day to night. We love that due to OOFOS’ flexibility, the sandal can move with our foot rather in opposition to it.
At Shopping Blitz we believe in testing the merchandise before we sell and almost our entire staff now owns a pair of OOFOS. It only took one test drive for us all to become hooked! From music festivals to long days at the office… a pair of OOFOS keeps your tootsies refreshed and ready for more. Because of their reasonable price they are a great choice as wedding favors! No better way to thank your bridal party and guests than with sandals that will refresh their feet from a night of dancing and celebrating.
