The annual Pinterest 100, a curated board of 100 Pin predictions across the top 10 categories, was recently released and revealed the style trends that will be all the rage in 2016. While old trends like Athleisure will remain popular, new fads like belt bags will also be hot in this year. Read on to discover some of our favorite trends that you can expect to see in 2016.

Athleisure

If you love sporting your running sneakers, moisture-wicking jackets, and yoga pants beyond the gym and yoga studio, then you’ll be happy to hear that the Athleisure fashion trend isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The fashion trend, which prompts incorporating activewear into your everyday wardrobe, gained massive popularity in 2015 and is expected to continue its momentum in the new year. In fact, the buzzword has become so commonly used that it will be added to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary early this year.

Stemming from the Athleisure trend, comfy-cool throwback sneakers will continue to be a huge hit in 2016. Throwback sneakers are receiving tons of pins from men and women alike and are being rocked with all sorts of clothing, from trousers and jeans to dresses and skirts.

Belt Bags

Fanny pack lovers rejoice! This year we’ll see a modern take on the outdated fanny pack with the introduction of the elegant waist belt bag. This sophisticated take on the fanny pack will be the accessory of choice for storing all your essentials, especially during music festival season.

Merlot for Men

Merlot is anticipated to be the hot color for men this year. We can expect hues like merlot, maroon and burgundy to be featured on all kinds of men’s garments from formal jackets and suits to casual sweaters. So, if you’re looking to get some new pieces for the new year, stick to merlot!

Fashion News Update

At Shopping Blitz we have the awesome privilege of carrying almost 300 amazing brands. Each brand in of itself is unique and worth getting to know better. Here is a snapshot of some of the cool stuff our Vendors are doing to shake up and change the face of fashion as we know it.

Leandra Medine for SupergaFirst up is my latest sneaker obsession, Superga

The Italian-based company, who inked a deal with Steve Madden as their exclusive North American distributors, is now under the direction of Co-Creative directors, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. The Olsen twins, who have long ago shed their image as the babes from Full House, have developed into savvy business woman and fashion mavens. With this in mind, it is no surprise that the brand has recently joined forces with Leandra Medine, street-style maven, blogger and recent author of a collection of essays entitled ‘The Man Repeller.’  Medine has now created a capsule collection, of the same name of her celebrated essays for Superga’s Fall 2013 collection. The style is young, hip and adaptable. Talk about a revamp on a timeless style!

agyness deynAgness Deyn for Dr. Martens

“I seem to be making characters for each new season. This seasons character is probably the quiet girl in the bunch whose walls are covered in posters of The Yardbirds, The Smiths and The Who” — Agyness Deyn

Model and modern ‘Punk IT girl,’ Deyne has created a new line for Dr. Martens, a brand that has a long rep for epitomizing the fashion essence that is alternative. Ms. Deyne,  embodies the company’s ethos of ‘standing for something.’ Her creative self-expressive style and innovative ideas were the catalysts behind her line, ‘The Third Collection.’ The collection is Deyne’s interpretation of the ‘Mod’ look, a style that has come along way from its inception in the swinging 60’s. The line encompasses clothing, footwear and accessories, with prints influenced by tailored fabrics like houndstooth and herringbone. While Deyne could make a garbage bag look chic,  this collection gives the rest of us a fighting chance.

nicola formichetti for dieselNicola Formichetti named Artistic Director for Diesel

“The fashion industry has to change. It’s so one-dimensional. We have to start somewhere, and Diesel is such a huge power.” — Nicola Formichetti

Former stylist for Lady Gaga, the Italian/Japanese fashion director and editor takes on Diesel and the project of infusing new life into an iconic brand. If you have any interest in fashion or social media, you will have by now seen the #dieselreboot campaign; featuring artistic images of edgy, fresh faced talent. Formichetti eliminated the middleman and went straight for the talent/creatives via a Tumblr page he created for such purposes. The #dieselreboot campaign is all about resetting the clocks, not so much a redo but a fresh shock to the established system. Something one would expect from a fashion innovator who has built his career on renegade styling and campaigns that land with a blast, never a whimper.

Trend Alert: Dress Sneakers

SBMEZ_15271_BLKf806eec1f12460945f4bca88df55cff1Dress sneakers are one of the fastest growing segments of the $13.8 billion athletic footwear industry, according to the NPD Group, a market research firm. Since the days of the Air Jordan, sneakers have been slowly creeping beyond their athletic-only roots. “That was the era when kids began wearing sneakers to prom, and then to job interviews,” stated Elliott Curtis, professor of Sneakerology, a real course taught at Carnegie Mellon University.

SBMPOS_DEBBIE_10153-2980Today luxury mass-market houses have gotten hold of the shoe and upped the ante. Popular among basketball stars like Dwayne Wade and musicians such as Kanye West, sneakers now act as another status symbol. “These sneakers have become so expensive that for an ad guy or a nonbanker, they’re a way of saying, ‘I’ve got cash,’ ” stated Mordechai Rubinstein, founder of the Mister Mort fashion blog. Brands like Mephisto and Mezlan have gotten into the game with their sleek and polished offerings. These pairs take the concept of the casual Friday to a new level. Up the style quotient at work with what’s soon to be the next fashion craze from overseas.

Get Closer to Your Beach Body the Shopping Blitz Way

Summer is a hop, skip and a jump away – are you all set for the bikini season or still scrambling to beach-proof your body in less than thirty days like the rest of us? If the latter refers to you, don’t despair! We have all you need to get moving and grooving!

Check With Your MD
Well, we don’t exactly carry doctors on our website, but we highly recommend that you see one anyways – you wouldn’t believe how many people end up in emergency rooms with avoidable injuries. Get the OK from your physician and make sure there aren’t any pre-existing conditions, such as asthma or high-blood pressure, that need to be addressed before you begin any exercise program.

Get In Gear
Workout gear, that is. Brands like Under Armour – with their Signature Moisture Transport System – keeps you comfortable and dry by wicking away sweat as you perspire during workouts. Make sure to get an ample amount of  tees and shorts as well as comfortable sneakers –  you want to avoid the “I don’t have anything to wear” excuse at all costs! If you plan on exercising in the daytime, don’t forget the sunscreen and some shades to protect your eyes as well. For those working out at night, we carry reflective apparel and footwear  to keep you safe and visible after hours.

Monitor Your Heart Rate
I wasn’t too fond of doing this myself at first, but it is important. According to medical professionals, closely tracking your heart rate during exercise can help you derive more from your workouts.  You heart rate tells you how fast you should be moving, when it’s time to slow down, and how in (or out) of shape you truly are. Luckily, brands like Soleus make water resistant HRM watches that can do the leg work for you.

Get Lost
No, please come back! I mean get lost in whatever it is you are doing to fine tune your bod.  Find an exercise routine that you love (or at least don’t hate) and make it fun! Blast your favorite tunes while doing workout videos at home or load up the iPod for gym sessions. Grab a buddy if you don’t want to do it alone, or join an online support group with like-minded individuals to track your progress and get encouragement. Stay at your own pace, keep a smile on your face and make this your best summer yet!

I Love My Bike and am Not Afraid to Show It.

It is hot as hell all over the U.S., and as far as I can tell, most of the world is experiencing heat waves as well. So I came up with a totally unusual way to cool myself down. I would like to share it with all of you out there who are looking to stay cool without sacrificing any of the fun of summer.

You see, riding a bike, even in this heat, is great. Even though your primal instincts are making you want to crawl in front of the nearest AC and just lie there waiting for the night to come, you should really try hopping on your bike and simply going for a ride!

Here’s the secret: If you drive, the breeze is inevitable. Yes, that is correct, instead of waiting for a cool breeze, go out and make your own! Even though you’ll be pedaling you’ll be less hot than sitting on a sofa, believe me.

Of course, you might want to choose the time of day wisely, especially if you have any chronic illnesses. Otherwise there is no reason why not to use the heat to your advantage and get that beach body faster. The more you sweat, the easier  it will be to lose your tummy flab and rid your legs of cellulite.

Naturally, there are some things you cannot do without. First, a pair of good sneakers, that will support your feet and give you extra stability while on two wheels. I personally adore the classic look of the Fila R8, because I am old-fashioned like that.

Next, you need some pants, and if I may suggest, make it a pair of comfortable capris; and a supportive tank top, that will not only show your fashion sense, but also keep the ‘girls’ in place.

I personally wear a hat too, because the Carhartt Plaid Bucket Hat is beyond cute, but cool shades might be more your cup of tea.

Which reminds me! DRINK WATER! Plenty of it! It washes the bad, bad fatty cells out of your system along with toxins left over from last night’s partying. Also, don’t be tricked into buying expensive ‘vitamin’ or ‘sport’ waters, those are for high- performing athletes and have more sugar than an average person needs. Tap water is just fine.

Let me know how you’re doing, also leave your tips and tricks to surviving the heat in the comments!
