Winter X Games Highlights

To us the best part of winter is the sports. Events like Winter X Games are an annual favorite, but in a year with the Olympics as well we kinda get a bit giddy.  As we prepare for  Sochi Winter Olympics, we  take a look back at our favorite moments from this year’s X Games.

Winter X Games 2014

We cheered on Nate Holland as he won his seventh X Games gold medal, beating out U.S. rider Alex Tuttle and German Konstantin Schad in the men’s Snowboarder X final. “Another X Games gold? I can’t believe it,” stated Holland, 35, an X Games competitor since 2002. “This year’s gone up and down for me so much: broken collarbone, Olympic qualifiers, scratched my way to the Olympics. … It’s just been a year of adversity, and I’m just so stoked to overcome that. I’m on the right path now, and it gives me so much confidence for Sochi.”

Danny Davis, newcomer to this year’s games walked away with Halfpipe gold. “I can’t believe it,” Davis stated on ESPN. “I’m gonna ride this switch method train as long as it’ll last.” Davis is one of four U.S. halfpipe snowboarders going to Sochi. Shaun White, who won every halfpipe title from 2008 to 2013, skipped the Games this year in order to train for the Olympics. “It’s bittersweet when Shaun’s not here,” Davis stated. “He’s the one to beat, but forget it. I’ll take it.”

Meanwhile, golden boy White allows a rare portrait on his road to the Olympics and all that is truly takes to be the best. The documentary, “Shaun White: Russia Calling,” gives a in-depth look at the highs and lows of being an elite athlete looking to be named the best in the world.
