Fashion News Update

At Shopping Blitz we have the awesome privilege of carrying almost 300 amazing brands. Each brand in of itself is unique and worth getting to know better. Here is a snapshot of some of the cool stuff our Vendors are doing to shake up and change the face of fashion as we know it.

Leandra Medine for SupergaFirst up is my latest sneaker obsession, Superga

The Italian-based company, who inked a deal with Steve Madden as their exclusive North American distributors, is now under the direction of Co-Creative directors, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. The Olsen twins, who have long ago shed their image as the babes from Full House, have developed into savvy business woman and fashion mavens. With this in mind, it is no surprise that the brand has recently joined forces with Leandra Medine, street-style maven, blogger and recent author of a collection of essays entitled ‘The Man Repeller.’  Medine has now created a capsule collection, of the same name of her celebrated essays for Superga’s Fall 2013 collection. The style is young, hip and adaptable. Talk about a revamp on a timeless style!

agyness deynAgness Deyn for Dr. Martens

“I seem to be making characters for each new season. This seasons character is probably the quiet girl in the bunch whose walls are covered in posters of The Yardbirds, The Smiths and The Who” — Agyness Deyn

Model and modern ‘Punk IT girl,’ Deyne has created a new line for Dr. Martens, a brand that has a long rep for epitomizing the fashion essence that is alternative. Ms. Deyne,  embodies the company’s ethos of ‘standing for something.’ Her creative self-expressive style and innovative ideas were the catalysts behind her line, ‘The Third Collection.’ The collection is Deyne’s interpretation of the ‘Mod’ look, a style that has come along way from its inception in the swinging 60’s. The line encompasses clothing, footwear and accessories, with prints influenced by tailored fabrics like houndstooth and herringbone. While Deyne could make a garbage bag look chic,  this collection gives the rest of us a fighting chance.

nicola formichetti for dieselNicola Formichetti named Artistic Director for Diesel

“The fashion industry has to change. It’s so one-dimensional. We have to start somewhere, and Diesel is such a huge power.” — Nicola Formichetti

Former stylist for Lady Gaga, the Italian/Japanese fashion director and editor takes on Diesel and the project of infusing new life into an iconic brand. If you have any interest in fashion or social media, you will have by now seen the #dieselreboot campaign; featuring artistic images of edgy, fresh faced talent. Formichetti eliminated the middleman and went straight for the talent/creatives via a Tumblr page he created for such purposes. The #dieselreboot campaign is all about resetting the clocks, not so much a redo but a fresh shock to the established system. Something one would expect from a fashion innovator who has built his career on renegade styling and campaigns that land with a blast, never a whimper.

The Point of It: A Fascination with Winter Toes

There is much to be said about the foot fetish, as well as its more specialized cousin, the love of toes. From ancient China and the once popular practice of foot binding, the human fascination with women’s toes is timeless.

In summer, there are many ways to show off your wonderfully pedicured feet and their luscious nail polish; from flip-flops to gladiators and classic sandals to peep-toes. Salons all over the country offer French pedicures, while nail artists are able to create beautiful pieces of art on even the smallest of surfaces.

But what to do when the days become to cold to show off our footsies? Do we completely hide our feet from the elements? The simple answer is no. The longer one is to keep them warm and dry but continue to hint to the fact that you have more to show off than can be seen.

Wear your peep-toes in the autumn and winter by pairing them with a thick pair of opaque tights, provided it is not raining, you can pull it off without no problem. I myself adore the Betsey Johnson Sitan Pumps. Not only are they reasonably priced but they have the ability to bring some joy and fun into the dreary everyday of the cold weather months. Teal or yellow, both sport a lace-up detail on the heel and the back.

That said, in the fashion Metropolis of New York we have seen the streets overflowing with another kind of toe highlight, only packed a bit differently. Dear ladies, it’s called a toe cap and it is all the rage in fashionista circles at the moment. Flats, pumps, boots and oxfords are adorned with contrasting colors or metal caps, and as always Shoppingblitz has stock in what’s hot.

The simple and classic Henry Ferrera 200-Paloma Pump highlights the toe in either orange, blue or pink. Sporting a 3.5 inch heel, they are a wonderful option for those of us who have to juggle work and grocery shopping while running from the subway to the office!

For the bad girls there are the Steve Madden Bolddd Pumps, which are a fetish in of itself, but perfect for a wild night on the town. Pair it with skinny leather pants for maximum rebel appeal.

If you are a lover of all things romantic, steer clear of the above mentioned, and opt for the Funtasma Victorian 45 Boots. With only a 2-inch heel, these beauties offer a sexy twist on classic attire, the lace-up design is made easy by a hidden zipper. Gold and black will go well with any pair of jeans, and will give you an excuse to wear 100 golden bracelets into the winter too.

The classic oxford is revived in the Bass Jolene Oxford. Quality made, leather all over, these will let your feet breathe and feel comfortable all day long. Pair with a pant suit or a pencil skirt for a Mad Men work experience.

Last but not least, Funtasma Mouse 16 Cute Flats, which are, above all, cute. Perfect for the days when you are feeling carefree and a bit silly. Leather, polka dots, and a bow… a bit much if not dressed down with simple black pants. When done right the whole ensemble can become a wonderful and humorous outfit.
