At Shopping Blitz we have the awesome privilege of carrying almost 300 amazing brands. Each brand in of itself is unique and worth getting to know better. Here is a snapshot of some of the cool stuff our Vendors are doing to shake up and change the face of fashion as we know it.
The Italian-based company, who inked a deal with Steve Madden as their exclusive North American distributors, is now under the direction of Co-Creative directors, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. The Olsen twins, who have long ago shed their image as the babes from Full House, have developed into savvy business woman and fashion mavens. With this in mind, it is no surprise that the brand has recently joined forces with Leandra Medine, street-style maven, blogger and recent author of a collection of essays entitled ‘The Man Repeller.’ Medine has now created a capsule collection, of the same name of her celebrated essays for Superga’s Fall 2013 collection. The style is young, hip and adaptable. Talk about a revamp on a timeless style!
“I seem to be making characters for each new season. This seasons character is probably the quiet girl in the bunch whose walls are covered in posters of The Yardbirds, The Smiths and The Who” — Agyness Deyn
Model and modern ‘Punk IT girl,’ Deyne has created a new line for Dr. Martens, a brand that has a long rep for epitomizing the fashion essence that is alternative. Ms. Deyne, embodies the company’s ethos of ‘standing for something.’ Her creative self-expressive style and innovative ideas were the catalysts behind her line, ‘The Third Collection.’ The collection is Deyne’s interpretation of the ‘Mod’ look, a style that has come along way from its inception in the swinging 60’s. The line encompasses clothing, footwear and accessories, with prints influenced by tailored fabrics like houndstooth and herringbone. While Deyne could make a garbage bag look chic, this collection gives the rest of us a fighting chance.
“The fashion industry has to change. It’s so one-dimensional. We have to start somewhere, and Diesel is such a huge power.” — Nicola Formichetti
Former stylist for Lady Gaga, the Italian/Japanese fashion director and editor takes on Diesel and the project of infusing new life into an iconic brand. If you have any interest in fashion or social media, you will have by now seen the #dieselreboot campaign; featuring artistic images of edgy, fresh faced talent. Formichetti eliminated the middleman and went straight for the talent/creatives via a Tumblr page he created for such purposes. The #dieselreboot campaign is all about resetting the clocks, not so much a redo but a fresh shock to the established system. Something one would expect from a fashion innovator who has built his career on renegade styling and campaigns that land with a blast, never a whimper.

We are excited to announce the launch of several new exciting eyewear brands over the next few weeks. First off is DSQUARED², the brainchild of Canadien twin brothers, Dean and Dan Caten. The brothers Caten have been involved in the international fashion business for close to 30 years. Graduates of Parson’s School of Design they debuted their first collection to Italian audiences in 1994. Their unique mixture of exquisite Italian design and stylistic maturity has since captured the attention of discerning tastes around the globe. The brothers have made a name for themselves from their impressive costume designs at the 2012 Olympic Games in Vancouver to their stint as hosts for the Bravo reality show, Launch My Line. Today the brothers divide their time between Milan and London, coining their oft repeated phrase, “Born in Canada, living in London, made in Italy.”
The DSQUARED² team has now conquered the eyewear market with their ultra chic and sophisticated sunglasses and prescription glasses. The stylish frames are coveted by celebrities and laymen alike. Big names likes Jessica Simpson and Kanye West are loyal followers, sporting DSQUARED² styles on runways and premieres. For a style as bold and in vogue as their apparel lines, the eyewear collection is a must for anyone looking to stand out from the pack. Known for their elaborate runway shoes, the twins refuse to be outdone when it comes to their Spring/Summer 2013 eyewear marketing campaign. Check out the Caten brother’s alter egos below!
Shopping Blitz made its debut appearance at the 2013 Agenda NYC. Agenda is an LA-based trade show that showcases the best of the best in the streetwear and alternative sports industries. The marriage of these two segments is an exciting group of hybrids brands that often surpass the originators. Located in a chic warehouse in SOHO’s fashion district, the show carried a coolness vibe that didn’t take itself to seriously, a tough feat in an image driven industry.
Agenda was home to a different kind of trade show attendee. Suits and ties were traded in for graphic tees and flat brim hats. Instead of execs with briefcases and laptops, it was veterans of the biz with skateboards and tablets. The kind of company where the owner looks no different than that of their employees. In other words, our kind of place.
We went to support some of our established brands like Sanuk, Stance, Praxis and Marley to see what they had in store and broaden our own horizons. They continued to rock with new stylings and hot innovations. Highlights included Sanuk’s new Instaplay, an alternative to their popular yoga mat flip-flops. The new footbed is meant to energize feet and comes with the added bonus of being waterproof.
Big Boys like Fila, adidas and Reebok were in attendance, as well as industry standards like Skull Candy, Converse, Starter, Vans, RVCA, Stussy, DC Shoes and Burton. All offered up amazing offers as per usual. Spotted were the ever popular high-top sneaker that has moved from athletic to fashion in a relatively short span of time. Neon colors, tech-friendly clothing, active apparel and an overall vibe of NOW reigned supreme.
One of the best aspects of the show were all the smaller upstart companies that are still young enough to think outside the box and create exciting originals. Personal standouts included Ames Bros., whose t-shirts and award-winning designs have landed them clients such as Pearl Jam, Jack Black, John Mayer, Keith Urban and The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons. HoodieBuddie, sweatshirts that include a 3.5mm headphone jack inside theirpockets for use with phones, mp3 players, etc. As well as, brands like Kidrobot, makers of killer limited edition art toys, signature apparel and pop culture accessories and Grenade who have begun to expand beyond their glove offerings.
Shopping Blitz is excited to move into the world of streetwear and look forward as always to bring our Blitzers the latest and greatest. Stay Tuned.

For over a year I have been working alongside two working moms. The experience has taught me that there is no one mom style. Moms come in so many different packages and each with their own fashion preferences. Some still rock the stilettos, not letting anything get in the way of them and high-fashion. Others prefer flats and clothes that can be thrown on and off; in the case of spit, throw up and any other gems their kids might throw at them. Still others are into a sporty and athletic style, for a quick trip to the gym in between pick-ups and drop-offs.
One of the few commonalities is that Moms want to look good just like everyone else.
At Shopping Blitz we have a saying around the office, ‘Down with Mom Jeans.’ We hate them that much. Non-flattering and with zero creativity, mom jeans are an ongoing joke and an insult to women everywhere. Mom’s are first and foremost women. In-touch styles, figure flattering cuts and silhouettes and the wow-factor still matter to them, maybe even more so than the single girl. Because they know what they want and have little patience for anything else. In that light, we SB style gurus dedicate this collection to fashionable Mom’s everywhere!
In the 90s overalls were THE thing. Hot TLC girls slinked around in them on stage, Drew Barrymore and Will Smith made them look cool on the big and small screens and the boys who frequented teenage girls’ dreams, ‘N Sync, embraced the look, putting the coveted denim item on all of our wish lists. Fast forward 20 years to the second decade of the 21st century and we wonder, is it still possible to wear overalls? My answer of course is yes.
The first thing that comes to mind when it comes to overalls is the ease of style. They are an easy look for busy moms, who need to run around after their toddlers and pick up groceries too, where a plain shirt and sneakers can round out the look without a problem.
Secondly, overalls are a lifesaver when gardening or doing any household chores, because you can dirty them up without feeling bad about it. Just toss them in the washing machine and they are ready for the next task in a matter of hours.
But, can one wear overalls with style, feeling chic? Again I would say YES. With spring arriving, it’s easy to pull off a cute and even fashion-forward look with this timeless staple. Simply find a more fitted pair, layer under with an interesting blouse and pair with your favorite footwear accompaniment. Finish the look off with a hair band, some bracelets, a great bag and you’re ready for an afternoon off, browsing shops!
