I won’t lie when things get quiet around here at Shopping Blitz headquarters I often find myself daydreaming. My swivel chair morphs into a hammock and the concrete floor becomes the softest, whitest sand
I have ever seen. My coworker’s snores become the sound of waves crashing and my cubicle dissolves into miles of pristine blue water. And like that I am on vacation! Nothing gets me in the mood for my mini retreats like promoting some of my favorite summer gear.
I recently stumbled across Teva‘s new Cozumel Beaded Flip Flop Sandals while browsing our new product selections. What drew me immediately was the unique design and flow. From the waterproof leather uppers to the Mush midsoles promising comfort no matter where the warm weather takes you. These sandals invoke for me not only lazy days at the beach but adventure, road trips, letting loose and letting go. In the words of the ultimate adventurer Jack Kerouac, “Live, travel, adventure, bless, and don’t be sorry.”
Everyone who knows me would say the same, that I am a girly girl. That means that I choose feminine clothes and wear pink and red as much as any other color. In fact, if presented with the choice, I usually choose pinkish hues, as they compliment my fair skin and blonde hair.
I understand that most of us who are approaching our third decade on this Earth, and especially those who are older than that, have been raised as boys or girls, and little attention was given to gender specific or unspecific upbringing. That’s why I choose pink and my brother chooses blue, without giving it a second thought.
But, in these more enlightened times, where gender roles are continuously challenged, I enjoy dressing like ‘the other me’. I put my high heels in the closet, hang the form fitting dress with frills on the hanger, and put on a strictly cut tweed pant, with a crisp white shirt. And I adorn my feet with my favorite classic oxfords, Kickers Roxanne, in Dark Beige to make my point. I am as soft or as tough as I want to be, and I am a girl and I am a person. The ‘other me’ loves the cushion-like feel of the oxfords, and I feel strangely free.
Do you enjoy ‘breaking’ the rules when it comes to dressing? Please comment and tell us how!
Be honest and admit it, you have read or are curious to read the latest pop culture phenom, 50 Shades of Grey. You can tell me, I promise not to judge. It will be our little secret because, sshhh I have read it too!
It’s a guilty pleasure and quite the page turner.
More interesting still, 50 Shades, has undisputedly penetrated more than just our bookshelves and bedrooms. We discuss it, fantasize about it and now we – wear it. That’s right the erotic sensation is now inspiring the runways. If Paris‘ recent Fashion Week is any example, strappy, domineering pumps are the new IT footwear.
So bring some of the magic into your own life and treat yourself to a pair of Pleaser Delight 600-10 sandals. Very appropriate or (inappropriate as the occasion permits) in the nude, or as they say, blush color, for work and play. You know you want to!
Most days I love to dress up for the office and take care with my appearance by incorporating fashion into my everyday life. On those perfect days I love to wear makeup and my hair is as close to perfect looking as humanly possible.
But then, there are days when I really do not feel like it, when I am a bit blue, or just tired, most likely from staying up late reading, which is my other passion. On mornings like that, I am late getting up and my mind is not ready to think happy thoughts of closet wonders and putting together the perfect outfit.
Luckily, some time ago I have found a perfect, hassle-free solution to those morning doubts. I just reach into my closet and pull out my wonderful Columbia dress, which I have in both Ocean and Black. I just squeeze myself into a pair of black skinny jeans, put on the first flats I see and throw my hair into a ponytail. For chilly mornings I put a cropped jacket over it, and I am ready to go. In other words, I have more time to drink coffee in peace, and read one more chapter of my latest book…
Whether it’s during competition or a night out on the town, Ariat makes classic pieces sure to please and garner respect.
Call us old-fashioned but we still long for Old New York sometimes. Gritty streets, hard edges, sex, rock & roll and of course style.
The modern Tomboy carries with her an ‘inherent sense of confidence, rebelliousness and adventure.’ Pink and glitter no longer hold the monopoly on fashion & elegance. Think outside the box and find your own style!
